Nevada, Las Vegas Golf Course Review

Obituary: The Falls Golf Club is the other resort golf course at Lake
Las Vegas (closed in 2008) and it had a much
different feel than Reflection
Bay. The front nine was a difficult, relatively
flat desert layout, where the back nine had dramatic elevation changes from
start to finish. While the views of the Las Vegas area (and the
strip) were great, the holes on the back got a little lost in the translation,
with the front providing the better golfing experience. Overall, it was a decent Vegas golf course, though, with some
fun holes mentioned below:
Hole 7: An excellent par 5 that weaved it’s way between two hills with very narrow landing areas for the drive and 2nd shots. The approach had to be played uphill to a green that was built over a rock wall short and right. Anything not carrying this was left with an almost impossible desert flop shot to a relatively flat and puttable green (not pictured).
Hole 13: Weiskopf’s signature hole was deemed that from the beauty alone. The elevated tee shot had magnificent views of Las Vegas and the green fairway way below the golfer snaked its way between the desert hills nicely. However, it’s was strange hole as any shot hit short of 250 yards left a completely blind shot to the green, over a hill, with the only view being a natural hole in the rocks. Even the aggressive drive still left an uphill shot where anything hit left still had a good chance of careening down the hill onto the green.

Hole 17: A blind, uphill tee shot greeted the golfer at number 17. While not that exciting, if the tee shot was played well, the second was a lot easier. Bunkers surrounded the green with a reed-filled lake to the right, a steep hill behind and the courses namesake, The Falls, looming to the left. While not the best golf hole, the approach was pretty enough to mention. (not pictured).
Hole 18: A fun finishing golf hole for the Falls with three lakes and a multitude of bunkers to deal with. However, it played downhill and downwind so getting home in two with an eagle putt was an option. The bailout areas were wide but the hazards made this a big swing hole possibility to end the round.
