La Quinta Dunes Course Overview: Nowhere near as exciting as the Mountain Course, the Dunes golf course at La Quinta gets trapped in a row of golf holes
that are repetitive and unexciting, especially on the front nine.
There are, however, a few novel holes that get the adrenaline pumping on
this resort course, which is the best alternative for the safe golfer looking
to score well in the desert. See below for a review some of these:
La Quinta Dunes Course Hole 6: The only real interesting hole on the front nine, this par 3 begs the question: how do I avoid the sand? The green, at 191 yards away seems a very small green target surrounded by unforgiving brown. Once hit, the green has a tier that makes putting difficult if the player is not close to the pin. La Quinta Dunes Course Hole 13 (right): A dinky little par 3 with nice view and a very soft green where the player must be careful not to spin the tee shot back in the water. Fun because birdie will be in the golfer’s mind on the tee, but bogey might end up on the scorecard.
La Quinta Dunes Course Hole 17 (below): Consistently ranked as one of the toughest golf holes in the world, the 433-yard par 4 is just that. A big dogleg left around a lake with three bunkers right of the sliver fairway and one left hugging the water. The drive must be hit perfectly to leave any chance at the green. In most cases, this shot will still be a long iron to a shallow green with a tier that throws shots left toward the lake in all instances. There are 5 bunkers right or long of the green to catch the bail out, all of which give the golfer a ticklish chip down to the green.

La Quinta Dunes Course Hole 18: Another challenging par 4 to end the round. Both the drive and the approach must avoid the large lake that runs up the right side of the fairway and green for the entire length of the hole. The nerves and mental game must be intact at the end of the round to survive this closing hole. (not pictured).
