Cypress Ridge Golf Course Overview: Situated on a hillside a few miles from the Pacific Ocean on the Central Coast of California, this golf course incorporates the use of Cypress trees (hence the name) on several holes to give itself distinction (unfortunately, I did not have a camera with me when I played the course). Other than that, it is an average track that has a few fun and/or challenging holes, the best of which are reviewed below: Cypress Ridge Hole 2: The first par three of the day is also the most difficult. Downhill all the way, this long one-shot hole is very difficult to judge if the wind is blowing. There are five bunkers and a hazard area ready to snatch any errant tee shot. (not pictured) Cypress Ridge Hole 5: The prettiest hole on the course is a very short par four that plays between venerable Cypress trees, slightly uphill to a small, well-guarded green. The player has many options off the tee (fly the trees, go between them or stay short of them) all which drastically change the approach shot depending on the success or failure of the tee shot. (not pictured) Cypress Ridge Hole 16: This uphill dogleg left par four is very difficult and tight all the way from tee to green. Playing much longer than the yardage, two great shots are needed to hit this green in regulation. (not pictured) Cypress Ridge Hole 18: The finishing hole is a snake-like par five that gives the player a chance to make a birdie or eagle if they’re willing to try to fly the greenside lake in two. Even played as a three-shot hole, the approach is tight between the lake and the bunkers behind the green. (not pictured) |
