Paiute Golf resort north of Las Vegas is difficult (there is a bonus set of
tees over 7600 yards for the truly masochistic player). The surrounding vistas of uninhabited desert
make for some nice visuals, but only if the ball is destined to fine fairways
or rough as anything outside of those boundaries are difficult to find without
penalty. The course does find itself
hard to remember with a fair amount of repetitive holes. The most memorable of these holes are described
below:
|
Paiute Golf Resort, Wolf Course Hole 6: Also the easiest hole on the golf course, this short par 5 has a wide fairway inviting a long drive. The only trouble is in the form of a shallow waste bunker left of the fairway the entire way. The approach for the player going for the green in two will be a challenge as the green is very shallow, but from short distance, pins are much more readily accessible.
Paiute Golf Resort, Wolf Course Hole 12: This long par 3 has water all the way down the right and short of the green. There is a fair amount of space for a bail-out shot to the left, but for the golfer that wants to hit the green, accuracy will be demanded. (not pictured)
Paiute Golf Resort, Wolf Course Hole 14: A long dogleg right, the more aggressive the drive at cutting off the dogleg, via flying the waste bunker on the right, the more probable the player will be able to hit the green. For the drive played safer, the approach is to a slightly uphill green angled behind a very large and deep bunker to the left.

Paiute Golf Resort, Wolf Course Hole 15: Pete Dye, master of the island golf hole created another masterpiece here. Similar to number 17 at TPC Sawgrass and PGA West Stadium courses, there is no place to miss the green, other than one lone bunker. The main difference is that the green here on the Wolf course of Pauite Las Vegas is huge. Thus the problem is not necessarily just trying to keep the ball on the island, but also avoiding a possible three put if not put on the correct side of the undulating green.
