La Costa Resort and Spa South Golf Course Review
Carlsbad, CA

La Costa Resort and Spa South Course Overview: The less challenging of the two golf courses at La Costa, this
slightly more forgiving track still features very small greens and a few holes
where water (more in the form of two creeks winding through the course than
lakes) is a factor. The best golf holes are reviewed below:
La Costa Resort, South Course Hole 1: The first hole is a good taste of things to come as the two creeks bisecting the fairway are only in play for really bad shots, but the fairway is narrow and the green is tiny and surrounded by bunkers. Thus, the hole is pretty and the water is a distraction from the real difficulty.

La Costa Resort, South Course Hole 5: The last of five starting par fours, this one is downhill with OB left and right to punish the wayward golfer. The green has bunkers to the left and right, but the real danger is long, which has a steep hillside down to a concrete ditch.
La Costa Resort, South Course Hole 6 (left): From the tee, the green looks tiny, which it actually is. Although the large trees left and right and the creek crossing 100 yards in front of the tee aren't truly dangerous, their beauty complements the pinpoint accuracy required to hit a narrow green with bunkers on all sides.
La Costa Resort, South Course Hole 10 (below): With the redesign of the North Course came a new shared lake with the 18th hole on that track, and the drive on the 10th is the benefactor as it is now much tighter and visually daunting. The approach will be with, at best a mid iron, to a well guarded green.

La Costa Resort, South Course Hole 15: This dogleg left requires execution from the tee. Any misfire to the left will be in tree jail or a watery grave. From the fairway, the approach is uphill to a very touchy, very small, table-top of a green completely encircled by deep bunkers.
