Desert Dunes Golf Club Overview: Robert Trent Jones, Jr. has designed a lot of great golf courses in a lot of different environments. Desert Dunes is a major exception. Difficult, but painfully boring, in a desert setting the more resembles an old western than the beauty of the region, doesn’t give this course much strength. The tamarack trees that line the fairways on several golf holes are what the course is known for, but they’re unattractive, and don’t add much excitement. The few good holes are reviewed below:
Desert Dunes Hole 5: This little par three appears to be more treacherous than it actually is as the desert that must be cleared is not as close to the green as it looks from the tee. Nonetheless, the green is tricky and well guarded from real hazards in addition to the mental one. (not pictured) |

Desert Dunes Hole 16: This par 5 is your classic set up where a good drive will allow the golfer to go for the green in two at the risk of putting the ball in the water that protects the green short and right. For those who lay up, the second shot is pretty tight and the green complex is well guarded and landscaped nicely.
