Palos Verdes Golf Club Overview: This private golf club in the hills of “PV” affords several views of the Pacific Ocean throughout the day. A par 71 track, length is not its main characteristic. However, sloping hills, uneven lies, tiny greens and formidable trees do present its main challenge. As usual for a private club, no "rating" is provided as the review is only informative towards certain golf holes. The best offerings are reviewed below:
Palos Verdes Hole 2: The day's first par three is long and difficult. There are bunkers on either side of the narrow putting surface so accuracy is critical. The ocean views are also spectacular.
Palos Verdes Hole 2: The day's first par three is long and difficult. There are bunkers on either side of the narrow putting surface so accuracy is critical. The ocean views are also spectacular.
Palos Verdes Hole 4: This par three is also long and challenging, but a lot of the difficulty is in club selection as the green is way downhill from the tee. Combined with any wind factors, hillside to the right and several bunkers, the tee shot is not very easy, and the green also has a strong tilt to it for putting.
Palos Verdes Hole 5: The fifth is a par five in a narrow valley playing uphill the whole way. Not overwhelmingly long, the key is accuracy to help the player score well.
Palos Verdes Hole 7: This strong par five is a sweeping dogleg left over a barranca. However, the main danger is the lake to the left of the green that starts about 100 yards out from the putting surface and is very much in play.
Palos Verdes Hole 8 (right): This small par 3 is sneaky difficult. It has a very narrow, multi-tiered green surrounded by bunkers and out of bounds hiding back-left.
Palos Verdes Hole 10 (below): An apparent uneventful drive is followed by one of the tightest approach shots anywhere, and a realization that the drive was more important than it looked. The green is minute and guarded by bunkers just about everywhere and two overhanging trees that make it nearly impossible to hit from a bad angle or the rough.
Palos Verdes Hole 13: The first of two downhill dogleg left par fours, this one is slighly less difficult than the 14th, but has a better view of the ocean along the way and is one of the better holes on the course.
Palos Verdes Hole 15: The day's final par three is a short one with trouble left and short. Otherwise, set a the low point of the course, it's a fairly flat putting surface and a good chance to score well.
