Pelican Hill Golf Club, Ocean South Review

Pelican Hill Golf Club, Ocean South Overview: Shorter and less difficult golf course than the North Course at Pelican Hill, this track still has superb ocean views and a few more postcard type holes on it than the other course. There is still plenty of trouble in the form of hazards, but there are also a lot more easy holes on this golf course as well along the way. The most memorable holes are described below:
Pelican Hill, Ocean South Hole 1: This par four is straight downhill and provides a great opening view of the ocean. With trouble on both sides of the fairway and a angled green with a tier, it's not a pushover. |
Pelican Hill, Ocean South Hole 4: This short par three plays away from the ocean, but is also downhill (a rarity at Pelican Hill). It is short and seemingly simple, but the green is large with back pin placements being tough as there is not a ton of room on top of the tier, and bunkers are lurking to the right side.
Pelican Hill, Ocean South Hole 5: This outstanding par four is not long but has a tough drive over the canyon with bunkers on both sides and hazard beyond them. The vista is stunning and the approach is downhill with yet more great views along the way.
Pelican Hill, Ocean South Hole 7: The views on this par three are yet again amazing, and the shot itself is quite difficult with the water to the right side definitely in play. There are also bunkers deep of the green.
Pelican Hill, Ocean South Hole 11: This downhill par four brings the player down close to the ocean and is fairly straightforward with drives funneling in from the left side back to the center of the fairway. The green is guarded by the deep bunker short-right and an even bigger one behind the putting surface.
Pelican Hill, Ocean South Hole 12 (left): The first of two successive par threes, this one is longer and more difficult. The combination of rocks and sand traps provides a unique feel to this ocean par three. Going left is obviously a very bad idea.
Pelican Hill, Ocean South Hole 13 (below): The signature hole par three actually has two greens. The one to the left is more picturesque, more narrow, but deeper and the one to the right is shorter and wide, but very shallow. Enjoy the views that accompany either option from the wide tee box.

Pelican Hill, Ocean South Hole 16 (right): Yet another ocean view par three, this one is long and tough with trouble on either side of the long and narrow green.
Pelican Hill, Ocean South Hole 18 (below): The closing hole crosses the canyon twice and features a very difficult, uphill second shot to a very well-guarded green.
