Riverwalk Golf Course Overview: Located on hotel circle in the Mission Valley of San Diego, this golf course actually has three nine-hole loops. At present, this review encompasses only the Mission-Friars combination. The Mission nine is pretty short but has water in play on five holes and is memorable. The Friars nine is higher up on the property, features more exposure to the wind and has its holes pretty much running parallel with OB on the left side of most holes, but less water in the way. The best golf holes are described below:
Riverwalk (Mission) Hole 1: This nine starts with a pretty tough drive. First, there is the river to clear and avoid on the left side, and second, there is a large audience as the tee is close to the cart staging area and putting green. From there, the hole bends left to a green that is fronted by a large bunker.

From there, the hole bends left to a green that is fronted by a large bunker.
Riverwalk (Mission) Hole 2: Very short, the golfer can go for the green from the tee, but there is out of bounds close to the left and a lake that starts about 200 yards from the tee and pinches in closer to the green. Played "normally", this requires no heroics and is pretty straight forward.
Riverwalk (Mission) Hole 3: Like the second hole, this is a short par four, but it doglegs right around and over a large lake. This one is much trickier to negotiate off the tee to put the drive between the bunkers and the water, and only the most precise of golfers would go for the green from the tee box. The putting surface is surrounded by water on three sides and has a bunker on the right side. It is sloped strongly from back to front.
Riverwalk (Mission) Hole 6: This dogleg right par four has a tough drive with water definitely in play. The second shot may also have to deal with the water, depending on angles and pin placements.
Riverwalk (Mission) Hole 9: The last hole on the front nine is a three shot par five (when playing into the prevailing wind) with the key being to getting the second shot as close to the river without going in it. The green is elevated, narrow and tiered with back pin placements being particularly difficult to access.
Riverwalk (Friars) Hole 3: This short dogleg right par four features a lake to the right. The tee shot can be played left of it, or if the driver can carry the tee shot about 230, they can leave a pitch to the green. However, any drive too far left if hit long may find the bunkers through the fairway.
Riverwalk (Friars) Hole 4: Into the prevailing wind, this par three plays long over the water and has an angled green. There is also water hidden long behind the green as well, so this is a tough par. There is a bailout area to the right of the green, so the golfer trusting the short game does have a decent option for up and down scoring.
