Industry Hills Golf Club, Babe Zaharias Course Review
Industry Hills, CA
73.9 rating; 135 slope |
Industry Hills Golf Club, Babe Zaharias Course Summary: Built through very mature trees on a hillside in Industry Hills, this golf course is a tale of two very different nines. The front nine is characterized by very challenging and frightening tee shots, most of which must negotiate water or OB, and is dominated by par 4's (7 of them). The back nine has shorter, slightly less interesting golf holes, but with small, well-guarded and tough-to-putt greens. It also has only four par 4's. Industry Hills, Babe Zaharias Golf Course Hole 1: The first drive of the day is by far the most intimidating. Starting at the top of the hill, the drive must cross a ravine with parking lot (OB) right and oblivion left. Any drive that stays in bounds, but goes right will be blind to the green over a series of trees. The downhill approach shot is to a shallow, wide green and it is tough to judge the distance. (right)
Industry Hills, Babe Zaharias Golf Course Hole 2: Although easier than the first, the drive at the second must stay straight down a shoot of trees with hillside left equaling hazard and anything going right finding an awkward like, most likely blocked from the green by a tree. For those finding the fairway, this short golf hole has a very wide, shallow and angled green so accuracy is a must to find it. (below)

Industry Hills, Babe Zaharias Course Hole 3: I think this golf hole is featured on a commercial with Phil Mickelson where a guy is cheating and Phil tells him to stop, but I'm not sure. Anyway, this hole has a huge water complex on the right that the player must wrap around or go over to find the green. Any drive right must not only clear the water, but must also avoid 2 dozen mature palm trees surrounding the water, making hitting the drive left (near the OB) a better option. The water goes all the way along the right side of the green and a back pin placement is really tough.
Industry Hills, Babe Zaharias Course Hole 5: Yet another solid par four, this one is straight as an arrow and slightly downhill. There is a bunker right of the tee and large trees to the left, so accuracy is a must. The ring of palm trees around the green provides a unique approach and the obvious water right and the hidden water long must be avoided to score on this hole.

Industry Hills, Babe Zaharias Course Hole 7: Not particularly beautiful, this long par 3 at over 250 yards from the tips is ridiculously difficult. There is a huge bunker front-left and the green sits on a plateau that will reject any shots coming up short or right. So, the mission is to get up and down when the golfer inevitably misses this green.
Industry Hills, Babe Zaharias Course Hole 10: After a slew of solid par fours on the front, the last truly memorable one comes at #10. This is a long, difficult dogleg right where a large stand of trees have the dogleg covered. So, the drive must be blasted or stay far enough left to avoid them. The green is slightly elevated and undulating so that short-sided shots will leave difficult up and down opportunities.
Industry Hills, Babe Zaharias Course Hole 12: The 12th and 16th run parallel to each other, in the same direction, with this one being a little shorter, but with a better green complex with tough bunkering.
Industry Hills, Babe Zaharias Course Hole 13: The first of two downhill par threes on the back nine that share a tee box complex, this one is better. It has a smaller green and the lake is more of a factor. The backdrop of Mt. Baldy on a nice day is also an added bonus.
Industry Hills, Babe Zaharias Course Hole 17: With the 18th golf hole being a fairly easy par 5, this long par 3 is the golfer's last really hard test of the day. Downhill, but over a lake with lots of bunkers, this shot is intimidating. Although the green is big, it is not easy to putt, so distance control is very key.
