Resort at Squaw Creek Golf Course Review
Olympic Valley, CA
72.4 rating; 135 slope |
Resort at Squaw Creek Golf Course Overview: Located at the base of the famous Squaw Valley ski resort, this golf course was designed by
Robert Trent Jones, Jr. It starts with a
few golf holes in the woods and returns for a couple more on the back nine, but the
rest of the golf holes situated around and over the Squaw creek meadows are the main
feature. If anybody knows a golf course
where more time is spent driving on wooden cart paths built over meadows, I’d
be surprised. However, the golf course
does have great vistas and a few memorable holes, other than just the drive. Those are described below:
Resort at Squaw Creek Hole 6: The sixth has quite a view of the surrounding Squaw Valley area, but the golfer must pay attention or they will find their tee shot wet. There is also a ridge running through the middle of the green that will make putting difficult if the shot doesn’t end up on the correct lateral half of the green. |

Resort at Squaw Creek Hole 8: This short par four is simply target golf. The meadow surrounds every side of every shot, so care must be taken. Fortunately, not much distance is required on either shot, so it is manageable.
Resort at Squaw Creek Hole 10: The start to the back nine is a solid par four with a lake right and trees left from the tee. The green has a large bunker left, but those who over-compensate to the right may find the slope right of the green that can careen shots towards the waiting hazard, not visually a worry from the fairway.
Resort at Squaw Creek Hole 16: The picture of this hole tells a thousand words and most sentences would sound something like this: “Where is the (add adjective here) green?” The answer is that the rather flat putting surface is surrounded by a sea of green meadow. If not for the bunker just left of the green, the golfer with bad eye sight might actually not find it. The area of safety is larger than it appears, but that is little comfort on the tee.
