Rancho Canada West Course Overview:  A very green and pretty golf course set in the Carmel Valley with thick trees everywhere and periodic flirts with the Carmel River.  Not a long course, it shows its strength with tremendously tight fairways and well-placed hazards, mostly on the back nine.  I played this with my dad when I was in high school in the mid 1990's, so there are no pictures.  I hope to play again in the next few years and update this.  See the best offerings reviewed below: 

Rancho Canada West Course Hole 12:  A good middle length par 3 with exceptional bunkering and the notorious presence of the Carmel River left.  The solid shot will not find any problems, but anything miss-hit will make par near impossible. (not pictured)

Rancho Canada West Course Hole 14:  A very challenging short dog leg left par 4.  Placement is a premium on the drive, which must leave a clear view to the well-bunkered green over the Carmel River.  The foliage and natural rive make this a pretty hole. (not pictured)

Rancho Canada West Course Hole 15:  From a tee box separated from the rest of the hole by the Carmel River, the golfer will invariably ask, “Where is the Fairway?”  The hole is so riddled with mature, overhanging trees that the fairway is less than 15 yards wide at some points and the drive must be hit dead straight.  Additionally, the Carmel River is in play left the whole way to the green.  Any approach shot that is pulled (or forced left by the trees right) will find an enormous bunker.  This is the best golf hole on the course.
