Rancho Mirage Country Club Review
Rancho Mirage, CA
69.4 rating; 122 slope |
Rancho Mirage Country Club Overview: It is rare to walk onto a golf course
where the golfer expects (based on the age of the course, the rating and slope)
a “muni” type golf course, and actually is pleasantly surprised. While Rancho Mirage is not close to the best
golf course in the desert, it achieves more than its stats would indicate, and
that is several interesting and/or challenging holes, the best of which are
shown below:
Rancho Mirage Country Club Hole 2: This hole is so short and straight-forward it would seem to not be worth mentioning. However, the green on this hole may get the award for smallest anywhere. It is a three-tiered green that is at most 20 yards long and 12 yards wide. Thus, getting the ball close to the pin is a challenge. There is also a huge bunker short of the green and hillside long, so accuracy is a must.

Rancho Mirage Country Club Hole 4: This short par four had the tightest tee shot anywhere with trees and OB left and houses and water right. The good news is that the player can hit three 5 irons and have plenty to reach the green in three, but temptation to go low on a 470 yard par 5 is always high. (not pictured)
Rancho Mirage Country Club Hole 5: After two short par fours, a tiny par three and a reachable par five, one would not expect a 447-yard beast of a hole, but that is what you get. To make matters worse, there is water right on the tee shot that is very much in play on the tee shot. (not pictured)
Rancho Mirage Country Club Hole 10: The opening hole to the back nine features a drive over water (not really) in play and must simply avoid the trees right and left of the fairway. The green is slightly uphill and features a large bunker to the left.

Rancho Mirage Country Club Hole 15: Another fun, short par 3 where accuracy is a must to hit this shallow, but wide green. A watery grave awaits the short shot and the chip from the hillside behind the green is not appetizing either. (not pictured)
