Costa Mesa (Los Lagos) Golf Course Overview: One of two golf courses at the golfing complex in Costa Mesa, this one is the slightly longer and difficult of the two, but it still tips out at less than 6,600 yards. It is a vintage back and forth effort between trees. It has limited undulations and memorable holes but the best are reviewed below:
Costa Mesa (Los Lagos) Hole 3: After back to back fairly mundane par fives to start the day, this par four is pretty beefy at over 400 yards. There are enough trees to cause trouble along the way and some bunkers at the green.
Costa Mesa (Los Lagos) Hole 3: After back to back fairly mundane par fives to start the day, this par four is pretty beefy at over 400 yards. There are enough trees to cause trouble along the way and some bunkers at the green.
Costa Mesa (Los Lagos) Hole 6: The best par five on the front sweeps left along the border of the property with OB left the whole way. The green is elevated strongly above the fairway, which undulates pretty strongly along the way, given the player a lot of different lies from day to day and an exacting approach.
Costa Mesa (Los Lagos) Hole 7: This par three is really tough with water to the right and thick trees to the left of the green. Being over 200 yards from the back tees the player has to really strike the ball well here. Pins to the right side has a bunker as well and the shallowest portion of the green, so the best play is left of center.
Costa Mesa (Los Lagos) Hole 11: Another challenging par three, this plays usually into the wind or with a cross-wind right to left, both of which demand a well struck tee shot to avoid the deep sand trap or other delicate cross-green pitches to the slightly elevated green.
Costa Mesa (Los Lagos) Hole 14: This par five doglegs left around a water hazard that is in play on a couple of shots. If it can be challenged, but not found, the hole plays much shorter.
Costa Mesa (Los Lagos) Hole 16: This is the strongest par four on the back. Although straight, it is relatively long and has a green that is well framed by bunkers on either sides and large palm trees behind.
Costa Mesa (Los Lagos) Hole 17: This par three usually plays a little longer than the yardage with the prevailing wind and the lone bunker is definitely a pesky one. The green slopes back to front and right to left, so the best miss depends on pin selection, but left is a little better than right or long.
Costa Mesa (Los Lagos) Hole 18: The day's final golf hole is a par five with water along the left side that comes into play mostly on the second shot. The green is fairly shallow and is guarded by a well-placed front bunker.
