Hawaii, Maui Golf Course Reviews
Maui Nui Golf Club Review
|
Maui Nui Golf Club Overview (formerly Elleair Maui Golf Club): This is the only golf course in Kihei and it offers a cheaper alternative to the surrounding resort courses. The front nine is long, punishing and surrounded by good, tough Kiawe tree lined holes. The back nine then eases up and offers more views but less challenge. The best golf holes are reviewed below:
|
Maui Nui Golf Club Hole 1: This opening par four features an inconveniently placed pond to the right of the fairway that can create an unhappy start to the round. Going left isn't better with OB so a tough opening shot for the golfer awaits any trip to this course.
Maui Nui Golf Club Hole 2: This is a very long par 5 that requires accuracy of the tee and precise distance control on the approach due to the twin bunkers in front of the green. The trees on both sides are thick so anything wayward will likely cost a stroke to get back in play.
Maui Nui Golf Club Hole 4: This long par four is a dogleg right and the drive must stay between the bunker left and the hillside right to offer a good chance at this uphill green with a large fronting bunker.
Maui Nui Golf Club Hole 6: The third difficult par four in a row is also the most challenging. With a lake left and OB right, the drive must be played long into the prevailing wind. From there a mid or long iron will be required to hit the green that, once again, is fronted by a large bunker.
Maui Nui Golf Club Hole 8: The second hole leading back to the clubhouse, this hole is an uphill par 5 with bunkers surrounding the green. It plays long due to being uphill.
Maui Nui Golf Club Hole 10: This par 4 with a sloped left fairway favors right off the tee due to the drivable bunker left. Very wide drives on either side will likely result in a lost ball.
Maui Nui Golf Club Hole 12: This monster 210 yard par 3 is surrounded by bunkers and trees which forces golfers to execute a well placed tee shot.
Maui Nui Golf Club Hole 15: The downhill tee shot must avoid the lake to the left that can be flown in low wind. However, if that is chosen, the player must also be careful not to go too long into the far lake. That lake then can come into play on the second shot into the prevailing wind.
Maui Nui Golf Club Hole 18: This gorgeous, ocean view hole, doglegs left around the trees for 500 yards and has a green with hovering bunkers long and on either side.
