Furry Creek Golf Course Review Overview: This golf course is unusual. First, the tips are under 6,000 yards and there are six par threes, six par fours and six par fives. It was built to maximize the views of the incredible coastline north of Vancouver, and it achieved that objective. The golf holes themselves can also be categorized into thirds, like their pars. A third of them are really well conceived, a third of them feel very forced or downright odd and/or unfair and third are somewhere in between those extremes. The average golfer should expect to lose a few balls, and their patience from time to time, while enjoying vistas and some fun shots along the way. The golfer can also play the hole where a certain game show host beat up a certain hockey player in a certain comedy golf movie. Bring a camera and below find the reviews of some of the holes making all three categories described above:
Furry Creek Golf Hole 1: This opening hole does not feature a "warm handshake" as it might be the hardest tee shot on the golf course. At a very high elevation with a stunning backdrop of the Pacific Ocean and island beyond, the player must fit the ball between the lake left and the OB to the right. Fortunately, like many holes at Furry Creek, it is not long, but accuracy on both shots is an absolute must.
Furry Creek Golf Hole 4: This par five is both long and tight. The tee shot must avoid OB left but a hillside to the right will gobble up balls from tee to green. It is also uphill as well on the second shot which gets even tighter. The green actually plays a little downhill from about 100 yards in but it's two very long shots to get that unobstructed view. The green is also fronted by a bunker you cannot see, and has trouble long as well.
Furry Creek Golf Hole 5: This is a little wedge par three with sweeping vistas to the left. The green is narrow but not so tricky as to require anything than just an average shot to allow the golfer a great shot at par.
Furry Creek Golf Hole 6: The first hole to feel a little unusual is a par five that is shorter than a par four, but there is a massive ravine that stars about 200 yards from the back tee, forcing a layup for anybody that cannot blast driver with a 280 carry. The second shot will be too long for most to go for it and the fairway slopes strongly from right to left, careening shots with right to left shape down into the trouble on the left. The green is elevate and sandwiched between super thick trees to the right and a hillside left that will be disastrous for the score.
Furry Creek Golf Hole 10: The start of the back nine is a fairly benign and well-designed par three. The back pin is by far the most difficult as the green narrows up a little slope there. Otherwise, it's a pretty good par opportunity.
Furry Creek Golf Hole 11: Golf holes that are not good normally don't get featured on the reviews. This one, however, is an exception. This par five is not long and acts as a dogleg left that plays downhill over a hill to the left, leaving the good landing area blind. A shot hit straight may go too far and be lost. The green is then way uphill over a massive hill and ravine. The layup must stay at least 70 yards short, but it is so uphill that leaving the ball too far back (and possibly for some short hitting golfers) will make the approach nearly impossible. This golf hole should be changed into a par four that puts the green at the base of the ravine, which would give the golfer the option to layup or cut the corner to leave a wedge. For those that play this course, consider skipping this hole.
Furry Creek Golf Hole 13: This might be the only truly long, difficult and fair hole on the course, with a tough, semi-blind tee shot over a ravine, the fairway angles a little right to left but a big drive can catch the slope to shorten the hole. Right is a little better than left and the green is relatively accessible, although small for a very long hole..
Furry Creek Golf Hole 14: The signature par three brings the golfer down to the Pacific Ocean and is quite a stunner. Long and difficult, the peninsula green is all the player could ask for in a memorable but difficult par three. There is plenty of bailout to the right for the golfer that doesn't feel like being a hero.
Furry Creek Golf Hole 16 (right): This par three is very beautifully nestled between large trees and feels very green and alive. It is a narrow shoot and the green is also very narrow, putting a premium on ball striking and accuracy. the green is fairly receptive and there isn't too much trouble, absent a very wayward shot, but the player should enjoy the rarity that is a flat hole as well.

At the risk of being a little negative, mention of final hole is warranted as it is a very ill-conceived dogleg left par four. Unassuming on the scorecard, the dogleg is very tight and plays like a 400 yard hole. It requires at least a 230-250 yard shot off the tee through a very narrow chute to give any hope of hitting the green in two. It's also so severe as to be the only acute angle hole recorded on this website and the approach is massively uphill, playing multiple clubs more than the yardage. Let the buyer beware.
